3 Boys
| October 28th, 2008
A look at 3 drawings (all in progress). The one on the left is the newest, the largest one is the oldest. I don’t want to overwork them, and am quite happy with how parts of them have qualities of a sketch.
He’s Happy ‘Cos He Gets Used A Lot
| October 25th, 2008Here he is all dolled up. I’m still tossing around ideas for color schemes. He doesn’t have a name yet. I have couple in mind, but I’m not ready to share. This guy is supposed to have arms, but I haven’t had a chance to make them. I always get very eager to cast and start painting straight away. I don’t sketch or have any blue prints for my characters. It’s a very stream of consciousness method I suppose, but ain’t no shame in that. I actually hate sketching. I always have. I like to dive in head first. Anywho, this guy isn’t finished yet. He needs a couple more details and I may play around with some more color schemes before committing to something.
I’ve been working on a very special custom for a very special artist’s solo exhibition coming up in Paris. I won’t divulge all the details yet, but I’m very excited. You may be able to figure it out if you look closely at the photo above.
Digging Up Roots
| October 24th, 2008I’ve been messing around with some old and familiar mediums lately. It’s easy to become redundant when working with characters, so on top of creating new characters, I’m experimenting with fleshing out the characters themselves by looking at them through different mediums. (Run-on!) I did more than my fair share of graphite on bristol paper portraits when I was in high school; many of them self portraits. I think most of these guys are going to inadvertently look like me as a result. When I draw objects, I like to work from my memory rather than using photographs. Some things will be slightly incorrect or awkward, but I think there’s beauty in imperfection. Needless to say, I’ve felt quite refreshed getting back to the basics.
New Toy Sculpt Almost Finished
| October 18th, 2008Here is a first look at my next resin character. Yes it’s a calculator. I still have to make his arms, but I’m going to give him a go without them first. I’m starting to make the mold today hopefully so I can start getting some more resin stuff out there. I’ve already started casting duplicates of my Jeffrey character, but he’s got a little something special coming with his first release, so he’s going to stay secret for just a while longer.
Clutter Magazine blurb
| October 14th, 2008Nothing makes me happier than when a magazine I love, read, and respect puts my stuff in their pages! There’s a little blurb about my Jake resin toys (first editions now sold out) in the upcoming issue of Clutter Magazine. Gonna have to send them a little gift for putting me in 2 issues in a row! You can pre-order issue #13 here.
Silas Martin X
| October 14th, 2008I’m really excited about the James Jarvis / Silas 10 year anniversary figure. I have the original ’98 Silas Martin red colorway. I wish I had the rest. Hope I can get my mitts on these!
New Jeremiah Ketner MAD*L’s
| October 8th, 2008Jeremiah Ketner (Chicago, IL) does such beautiful work, and he’s a really great guy. I found these MAD*L’s he just painted while browsing his Flickr this morning. His paintings are just as gorgeous.

| October 6th, 2008Jeremyville Dunny by Kidrobot
| October 5th, 2008I’ve always been a huge fan of Jeremyville‘s work, so I made a special trip down to Kidrobot this past Thursday to pick it up. Jeremy never disappoints. This Dunny is amazing! Pick it up at Kidrobot online or in stores.
