Brute Jonny

Well well, it’s a Saturday night in San Francisco and I am at home working! It’s okay though, it’s by choice. I’ve spent the last few weeks in a creative k-hole, so to speak, trying to gear up for the coming year. It’s tough distilling all the ideas down. I really want to incorporate vintage and repurposed clothing into the mix somehow.  That’s why I’m debating putting the clothing I’m making under a new label and pairing that with products made by others. Tough decisions!

I’m also gathering up all my old stock from the last few years. I wanna get rid of this stuff before I move, so I’m gonna have a huge sale at Hello, Brute in February. I have all sorts of customs, plush toys, and shirts that have resurfaced after being sold out. So keep your eyes peeled for that.

I spend so much time drawing, and I’m gonna try and be better about posting my day to day stuff. A lot of them go into bigger projects, and sometimes get lost in the shuffle. Today’s drawing is a boy drinking a hot chocolate in his winter wear. He reminds me of the boy in the previous post.

Here’s a better look at my next toy Kristopher (click for larger image). The regular edition is all finished now. I’m gonna be spending the rest of this week and weekend casting them for the release. Then I’ll decide on a release date next week probably which should hopefully be in the first couple weeks of February. I have a lot planned for this year. I’m going to Portland in a few weeks to find a new home. And if all goes according to plan, I’m moving in March! So things may be a little bit sporadic at Hello, Brute for a couple months or so, but afterwards there’s a whooole lotta new stuff goin’ down. I’m already sketching and drafting patterns for jackets (see yesterday’s post), shorts, scarves and bags!  So expect some new and original clothes later in the year. Pretty cool!

So some of you may know I’m making steps towards making jackets for my label. Early on when I started designing, I really wanted to do jackets and bags, but since fell in love with toys I put all my focus into making toys instead of clothes. Well now that the ball is rolling on the toys, I’m finally tackling the challenge of making clothes in my spare time. I picked up some old (and ooglay) fabric at the Goodwill on Haight today to use as practice material. I think I did a pretty good job on my first sleeve! Pics after the jump!

Hey brats, this is the first look at my new toy. Left to right: original sculpt, 5 pc. special edition, 10 pc. regular edition first (color variant), 1 of a kind surprise release. The regular version isn’t quiiiiite finished, but almost. These will be released at the beginning of February and will range from $40-$50. Don’t be a loser, buy one because I’m moving to Portland in March and need money. These are recession prices, people!! It’s like shopping at Wal-mart, but you still get to go to Heaven!

Spent all day cleaning and organizing my computer and studio. Also had some time to start a new illustration so I have some new work my next magazine feature. I usually draw all the elements in my illustrations separately on paper, then color and composite them on my computer. Above are some of the separate drawings that will be part of a much larger illustration, then later turned into a painting.

Here is my most recent drawing. Gonna do a lot more. Trying to keep it loose ‘cos I like how you can see pencil lines still. They’re starting to look like yearbook pictures, but I kinda like it that way.

Aren’t these shoes by Zuriick hot? I think I’m gonna focus all my “I gotta have this but I ain’t got no cash” energy into this blog.

So I’ve totally sucked at keeping this blog updated. I’m gonna try and revive it though so keep your eyez peeled!!!
