Pick Pack Pickity Pack

Robbie

Well, I am almost outta here (SF). I leave on Monday. Gonna be so sad leaving. I had my favorite ice cream in the world today (Birite Creamery) and my pal Dakota is coming over to watch the finale of Top Chef (shhhhhhhhhhhh). It took me about 2 days to pack all my toys up (the ones I collect and the ones I’ve made) which is sorta on the ridiculous side, no? Anywho, not much to report on. My shop will be offline for about a week so I have time to move and get settled. Wish me luck on the getting outta here (moving is always such a bitch!!!) , and I’ll try and get around to listing my favorite SF places before I get outta here.

Byeeee!

I seen SF local Marjorie from Top Model at American Apparel today. She is taaaaall, skiiiinny, prettttty, and seems really sweet. I didn’t take her picture cos that would be weird. Should I be embarrassed that ANTM is one of the very few TV shows I watch? Probably, but I’m not. hehehehehe

Well evidently I have good credit (not that I’d know because it’s apparently some huge fucking secret mystery number only a privelaged few have access to), because I now have a home in Portland! I am in my way back down to San Francisco to pack all my stuff up before moving in 2 weeks. Yikes!!! Robbie (dog) is freaking our because he’s sick of the car, but he will be rewarded with his own back yard.

I’ve got a lot of stuff to catch up on when I get back and I’m really behind on emails. If you don’t hear from me within a week, please kindly remind me.

I’m gonna be having a sale soon at Hello, Brute and I have some old gems I found while cleaning out my storage. I’ll post the details when I work them out.

Ok typing on a phone sickity-sucks so I’m gonna read a book. Wish me luck on my trip!

Okay, so I did more (half-assed) shopping today while waiting to hear back if we’ve gotten the house in Portland. Just wandering around the suburbs actually. I bought a shitload of jeans for $15 a pair, and they fit reaaal nicely. I guess the mainstream are sick of skinny jeans already, so they’re all going [...]

Day in the ‘burbs

Okay, so I did more (half-assed) shopping today while waiting to hear back if we’ve gotten the house in Portland. Just wandering around the suburbs actually. I bought a shitload of jeans for $15 a pair, and they fit reaaal nicely. I guess the mainstream are sick of skinny jeans already, so they’re all going on super sale. I am skinny and skinny jeans look best on me, so I will probably be wearing them for years to come. So if you’re into ‘em, now’s the time to be searching around for new pairs cos the stores are gonna be stocking the new season and putting a buncha shit on sale.

Hand Job

I bought a couple of books at Powell’s Books today. Hand Job by Mike Perry is my favorite. Anyone that knows me knows I love me some hand-drawn lettering and I think he did a great job with the book. My buddy Travis has a few pages of work in there as well. Normally I like to buy directly from the artist/author/designer if possible, but this was a bit of an impulse buy. Buy the book from Mike’s store here. I still need to get his book of hand-drawn patterns called Over & Over, I just need to reign in the spending before moving. He has cool zines and stuff for sale too. I’ve been trying to do a zine for years, but it always falls to the wayside. Once I’m in my new studio, it’s likely I’ll get around to it.

Other than that, I’m dying to get back home and get back to work. It’s really difficult leaving projects you’re right in the middle of. Hopefully everything goes well, and I’ll be back in San Francisco tomorrow night. Wish me more luck!

Okay okay, sorry about all the product plugs. I guess I’m over-zealous because I’ve had limited internet access for a week and just spent the last 2 hours crawling around the web. Pathetic!!!! I guess I’ve also got a shopping buzz because I’ve been in about a zillion shops this week and have bought close [...]

Still in Portland, tick tock

| February 17th, 2009

Okay okay, sorry about all the product plugs. I guess I’m over-zealous because I’ve had limited internet access for a week and just spent the last 2 hours crawling around the web. Pathetic!!!! I guess I’ve also got a shopping buzz because I’ve been in about a zillion shops this week and have bought close to nothing. I’ll post more about my work once I get back home. And yes, I’m still in Portland. We’ve put in an application in for a house and are waiting to hear back. I hope it works out, because I will have quite a bit of studio space. Verrryyy exciting.

I am getting kinda antsy because I’ve been away from my work for about a week. All I have here is a sketchbook, some bristol paper, and my pencils. I have been doing a few drawings that I’ll scan when I get back to San Francisco. I’m also going to be releasing my Kristopher toys in the next few weeks, as well as begin work on the next toy after that. I’m going to be doing my best to keep things going throughout the moving process, though the next few weeks may be a bit sporadic. Once I get settled though, I’m gonna be on a ROLLLL because I’m gonna have more studio space than I’ve ever had, plus a proper workshop for toy casting and screen printing. So even though the year has gotten off to a slow start, I’m gonna make up for it. Scouts honor!

Soooo it’s almost 2am, my laptop battery is almost dead, and I’m expecting an early phone call. Time to go nitey nite. Wish me luck on the house!!!!!!

I’ve spent the day wandering around Portland, and I think moving here is the right choice. (I’m really gonna miss SF :( :(:( ) The art and music here is just as good though. Portland loves them some vintage clothing stores. Lots of old t-shirts, and lotsssssss of plaid flannel. Okay yeah, that’s mostly the stuff [...]

Ore-gone Thriftin’

I’ve spent the day wandering around Portland, and I think moving here is the right choice. (I’m really gonna miss SF :( :(:(:( ) The art and music here is just as good though. Portland loves them some vintage clothing stores. Lots of old t-shirts, and lotsssssss of plaid flannel. Okay yeah, that’s mostly the stuff I wear anyway, but who thinks most men’s clothes suck!!? I spend houuuuurs looking at shit, and I hate 99% of it. The new stuff sucks and costs too much, the old stuff is gross and dirty, and since I can’t afford $1500 jackets, all I get isĀ good basics, thrifty thrift, and shit I make/print. I’m sick of wearing plaid/gingham button up shirts. BLahblahblahhhh. I’d shave my head and wear white tee’s and jeans, but I’d freeze my tits off up here. Cut to me 2 months from now:

People here seem pretty nice in general. I’ve seen a lot of weird people, but it’s the good kind of weird. There’s the good kind of weird people in San Francisco, but there are also the kind of weird people that make you pretend you don’t understand English. It sounds weird but Portland is kinda like half SF, half North Carolina, but all the good stuff. People are nice and will speak to you, but aren’t aggressively ignorant. It’s got its city thing going on, but is clean and not stinky. Sorry SF, but sometimes you smell like Alpo dog farts when I try to walk my dog to the park. Portland is so clean you could eat off it. Above all, I am glad to not be paying REEE-DICK-UUUU-LOUSSSSS kick-you-in-the-nuts rent. I miss SF already.

P.S. I wrote this post last night, but I was kinda drunkie and forgot to publish it. Whoopsie.

I am on my way to Portland to find a new home and bigger workspace. It’s sad leaving San Francisco. It’s been a wonderful home and I’ve learned tons living there. House Hunting Begins

| February 11th, 2009

I am on my way to Portland to find a new home and bigger workspace. It’s sad leaving San Francisco. It’s been a wonderful home and I’ve learned tons living there. I’m really excited to be living and working in a new place that’s ultimately gonna allow me to be more productive. My only concern now is finding a home in Portland with less hassle than in SF. Hopefully I’ll find a place within a week before returning to SF to move out. More details from the road as they unfold.
